In Iran, where there are 40 million acres of desert surface, wind erosion presents the greatest challenge to reducing desertification. Afforestation is the easiest solution to deal with this phenomenon, but the limitation in the quality and quantity of available water resources shows the necessity of proper planning for the irrigation of pasture plants. In order to determine the most appropriate irrigation method for pasture plants, this study was conducted for two years (2017-2018) in the form of a factorial design and randomized complete blocks with 3 replications at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. The main levels included four types of pasture plants (Prosopis cineraria (T1), Conocarpus (T2), Albezia lebbek (T3), and Ziziphus (T4)), and the sub-levels included four types of irrigation (surface (I1), waterboxx (I2), pitcher (I3) ) and Bubbler (I4)).The results of analysis of variance showed that the types of pasture plants had a significant difference at the level of 1% in terms of the measured indicators (plant height, stem diameter, stem dry and wet weight, leaf dry and wet weight, leaf surface index, and water volume and water consumption efficiency). There was also a significant difference between irrigation methods at the level of 5% for all indicators except stem diameter and leaf surface index. Among the plants, mesquite had the highest amount of coverage (including height and dry and wet weight), the lowest amount of water consumption (average of 996 liters during two years per stem), and the highest water productivity (9.72 kg/m3). Among the irrigation methods, the bubbler irrigation method provided better coverage than other methods. In contrast, the water box irrigation method was superior in terms of water consumption and water productivity indicators, it saved 87% of water consumption compared to surface irrigation, and it increased water productivity by 298%.
